A Rocha USA

The aim of this internship is to gain experience in practical marine conservation, receive mentorship towards career goals, and engage with thoughtful reading and discussion of moral and ethical issues in conservation particularly from a Christian perspective.

This internship in part of the Murdock Charitable Trust’s, Vision & Call program and will be a full-time, nine-month program based in Titusville, Florida from September 1, 2022 – May 31, 2023.

 

We are seeking recent graduates who have (or will have by Sept 1, 2022) a degree in any environmental or conservation science pursuing a career in conservation. A Rocha USA is a faith-based organization, and the internship will integrate Christian theology and scientific training.

 

Relocation to the Titusville area is a requirement and we will work with you to find housing as needed. You will receive a stipend of $1,667 per month for 9 months.

Internship Overview

• Individualized mentorship towards conservation career goals and leadership training.
• Marine conservation project experience in biodiversity conservation, plastic pollution, livelihoods and well-being, and climate change.
• Directed reading and discussions on marine conservation topics and Christian theological writings that address moral and ethical issues related to these topics.
• Training in SCUBA and underwater research.

Qualifications and Skills

• Graduated with a university degree in a biological, environmental, or sustainability field by August 2022.
• Able to move to Titusville, Florida no later than September 15, 2022 through May 2023. There will be significant time off for the Christmas holidays and the official start and end dates of the internship are September 1 to May 31. Reading and preparation at your normal residence will occur the first two weeks of the internship.
• Must attend (at A Rocha’s cost) a conference hosted by the Murdock Charitable Trust’s Vision & Call program October 6-9 in Portland, Oregon.
• Must be a strong swimmer and comfortable in the ocean: able to swim 200 meters continuously and tread in water too deep to stand unaided for 10 minutes.

 

Preferable

• Ability to surf, SCUBA or free dive, or other demonstrable commitments to the ocean.
• Have a vehicle that can be used in Titusville for the duration of the internship.
• Come from a cultural background that is underrepresented in marine conservation.
• Photography as a hobby and a desire to learn or experience underwater photography.
